What is ClubMac?

ClubMac is for people who are interested in the Apple Mac platform. We provide an opportunity for people new to Apple computers (as well as experienced hands) to meet and to learn how to get the best out of their Mac in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

At our monthly meetings — which take place every month between September and May — we aim to answer questions that people may have with their Mac, provide them with up-to-date news on all things Apple and inform them about those little-known but often very useful software applications.

ClubMac’s bulletin board is also a very important resource; if you’ve got a problem, post it on the bulletin board (you must register first — it’s free) and our helpful band of Apple gurus will do their best to sort you out.

[Special announcement] October meeting

image: 6 October 2010The October meeting of ClubMac will take place on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at 7.30 p.m., in the premises of CompuB, 111 Grafton Street, Dublin 2 (the store is located near the Molly Malone statue and is just across the road from Trinity College).

The management and staff of CompuB will be giving us presentations on a number of product areas: iMacs, MacPros, iPads, iPhones, etc. To make the evening interesting to everyone, CompuB have proposed a "speed-dating" format in which we will be divided into small groups with each group getting a presentation on one area e.g. AppleTV, and then moving onto the next product area.

We will end the meeting in CompuB's state-of-the-art training room where we will have our regular Technical Q&A session. We expect to finish the evening at 9.30 p.m.

As the meeting will be by invitation only, the Committee will be writing to the members (who may invite guests) to ask them to rank in order of preference what product areas they would like to see, and to issue them with their invitations.

October meeting

We had a good turnout at our September meeting; there were a number of new members, and we said hello again to some of the Club's returning young Turks!

Special thanks to our guest speakers, Noel Davidson, who presented three of his favourite utility programmes and, John Dwyer, who gave a talk on backing up your data and what to do when your hard drive fails.

We announced details of our entry-level training for beginners/switchers which will start in November.

Special membership discounts

ClubMac have negotiated a number of special offers for our members. For the last two years, Galmac Computers has been providing members with a 3% discount on all hardware and software purchases as well as repairs.

More recently, Cork-based Apple dealer, Stream Solutions, are offering a 10% discount on parts and labour for any workshop repairs for fully paid up ClubMac members. There are a number of conditions attached to this offer; please see the Membership offers page for further details.

This page also outlines other discounts and benefits available to ClubMac members.
