Not sure if what I am looking for can be done or not!

Is it possible to connect a Time Capsule to a router wirelessly rather than using an Ethernet cable?

I don't want to keep my Time Capsule in the same room as where the broadband router is installed so using an ethernet cable is not an easy option! I would like to use it as a base station however!

From what I have read online the only option is to use a cable to connect it!

As long as the router has wireless (you may need to turn it on) and the TC can see that network and that network on the router is set up to be extendable...

you can go through the set up routine in Airport Utility and choose Extend an existing network.

The Time Capsule is essentially an AEBS with an internal drive.

I think you're better off with the AEBS and an External Drive. Not as neat but nonetheless more reliable and more flexible if something goes awry.

I had my TC die (and replaced quibble free in an excellent Apple service experience) but what hit home was that I had a drive full of data inside a dead wireless router. It would have been much better to have that data available to me otherwise.

I do think that the Apple Airport Utility is worth it, in terms of configuring wireless devices so I heartily recommend the AEBS but I'd hook an external HD to it.

One thing if you do have a TC, you can also attach a HD to it and have it sync the data on the internal drive. That way you have two backups. That's what I'm currently doing with mine. It's another layer of backup.
