All you can do is be sure to have multiple backups of your data and insure you have copies of your applications and serial nos . Don't just rely on time machine if thats what you use. Then if it does die, its just a hardware replacement.
As to the board, its usually cheaper to replace the notebook as even though the cost is lower than a replacement, the new board is usually only guaranteed for 6mths (as some other excuse will be given when it fails again) Like installed kitchen white goods, notebooks don't tend to like their boards being replaced and will find some other reason afterwards to keel over.
Check if the notebook was part of any general recall as you might get a board for free.
