Waiting for the arrival of the iPad. Until it is actually launched cant make my mind up how good or not so good it will be. But have a few ideas about how it might work for myself at least. For me it would have to run Excel and a word processor, making notes etc. Possibly a enlarged 'Sketch Pad' I do a lot doodling, Sketching out ideas especially on holidays and travelling. I prefer not to bring my MBP. If its robust and sturdy as well might be ideal for travel and holidays.
The other thing I think might work very well for me at least would be to use it in our Reception in our Centre. Linked to a large 50'' Monitor and use the iPad to put up useful information, maps, possibly special 'Apps' etc. I am thinking of a large map of the area around us and there would be clickable icons on the map and the touch screen iPad.
Any other ideas or opinions?

The Good news is that what was launched was a beta. What you saw was an elaborate April Fools Joke as that one was an enlarged iPhone. I have to disappoint you that Painter or something similar will come to the iPad. Those who will wait for Photoshop to be released should also look into whether they will have the cash at the time of their Pension/lotto win. Good news is that the first version will luckily be replaced by a working one (like the iPhone and iPhone3G) . Whats even more fun will be those who install Skype and use the iPad as a phone. Yes you too can relive those who used to have large bricks as mobile phones from the 80's.

I see one of the Middle Eastern airlines are offering the rent of an iPad while in the air (you can't lose it).Could be an alternative to headrest entertainment systems in future if a cradle on the seatback could be designed.
